Travel Trailer, Class C or Class A: Which RV Fits Florida?

What size RV should you rent for a Florida trip? Rent the smallest RV that sleeps everyone comfortably and fits the campsite you want: a Class C for two to six people who want to drive from stop to stop, a Class A for a larger group that wants the most living space on the road, and a travel trailer when you plan to stay put at one campground or have a truck that can tow it.

Florida trips put specific demands on an RV. Most of the time is spent parked at a beach or state park campground, the summer heat makes air conditioning and indoor space matter, and the best-known Gulf Coast campgrounds have rules about what fits on each site. The right choice is less about the biggest rig and more about matching the RV to your group, your vehicle and your campground.

How many people are sleeping in the RV?

Start with beds, because a rig's sleeping count often includes a converted dinette or sofa. Our listed units range from sleeps 6 to sleeps 12.

Check each floor plan on the listing before booking. Our large RV rentals in Tampa page walks through what bigger groups should look for.

Do you want to drive the RV, tow it or have it delivered?

How the RV gets to your campsite is the biggest difference between a motorhome and a trailer. A Class A or Class C is driven, so it is the better fit if you plan to move every day or two between parks. A travel trailer, toy hauler or fifth wheel has no engine and must be towed by a properly equipped truck, which is why many renters choose delivery and setup at the campground instead.

On licensing, Florida law exempts drivers of recreational vehicles, as defined in section 320.01, from commercial driver license requirements. Confirm any questions about your own license before you travel.

Class A vs Class C: which motorhome is right for you?

A Class C is usually the better choice for first-time drivers and groups of six or fewer, while a Class A suits larger groups who value space over maneuverability. The Class C we list is a 2023 Coachmen Cross Trail, 26 feet long on a Ford E-Series chassis, sleeping up to 6 with a queen bed, a full kitchen, a full bathroom and a 4,000W generator. At 26 feet, it is easier to place on tighter campsites and beach-town streets than a full-size coach.

Our Class A, the 2023 Azure Horizon Coach, sleeps 8 and is listed at $250 a night. Class A coaches are long and tall, so they take more care on bridges, ramps and tight turns, and some campsites will not fit a full-size coach. Compare both on our Class A motorhome rentals and Class C motorhome rentals pages.

When does a travel trailer beat a motorhome in Florida?

A travel trailer wins when your group is large, your budget is tight, or you plan to stay at one campground for most of the trip. Trailers also carry the widest range of capacity and price in our fleet, from a sleeps-6 unit at $60 a night to a sleeps-12 unit at $130 a night on the 2026 rates page.

The trade-off is flexibility. Moving a trailer between parks means hitching and unhitching, and without your own truck you depend on delivery. Florida law defines a travel trailer as having a body width of no more than 8 1/2 feet and an overall body length of no more than 40 feet, but each unit differs, so check the specific length on the listing. See our large bunkhouse travel trailer page for the layout most families ask about.

Will the RV fit your campground?

Campsite length and site rules can rule out an RV before price ever does, so check them before you book. Three examples near Tampa show how much this varies:

Which of our RVs fits your trip?

Here is how our real units line up with common Florida trips. Prices below are the 2026 nightly figures from our rates page. Expect the final quote to shift with season, trip length, chosen dates, mileage, add-ons, delivery and other fees.

We do not list a camper van or Class B, so if you want the smallest drivable option, the Class C is it. Full details are on our RV rental prices in Tampa page.

Frequently asked questions

What size RV should a family of four rent for a Florida trip?

A sleeps-6 unit is usually enough for a family of four. If you want to drive between stops, the 26-foot Coachmen Class C sleeps up to 6; if you plan to stay at one campground, the Timberline Retreat travel trailer also sleeps 6 and is our lowest listed rate.

Will a Class A motorhome fit at Fort De Soto campground?

Possibly, but only on the right site. Pinellas County says sites 86 to 236 are designed to accommodate all camping units, while sites 1 to 85 are limited to tents, vans, pop-ups and trailers under 16 feet, so reserve a site in the larger range and confirm it with the park.

Which Tampa RV Rentals unit sleeps the most people?

The Gulf Coast Grand, a 2025 travel trailer, is listed as sleeping 12, the most in our fleet. Several of our other travel trailers sleep 10.

Is a Class C easier to drive around Tampa than a Class A?

Yes, for most renters. Our Class C is 26 feet on a Ford E-Series chassis, while Class A coaches are longer and taller and need more care on bridges, highway ramps and tight turns.

Can I pick up a motorhome at Tampa International Airport?

Yes, renters flying in can add Airport Pickup for TPA when booking, and it is priced separately. Ask our team exactly what the service includes for your dates.

Can I take a rented travel trailer to Hillsborough River State Park?

Yes, as long as the trailer fits the site. The park lists a 50-foot maximum RV length, and Florida State Parks limit parking to two vehicles per campsite, so count your tow vehicle and any extra car.
